As life rapidly changes day-by-day, so too has our food system. Small farms and localized production are quickly adapting to the changing conditions while industrial-scale production is showing its fragility.

It speaks volumes to the importance of supporting small producers, and reinforces the work we do here at Savory. So, here’s a rundown of what’s been happening around the Savory Global Network and beyond...

FUNDO PANGUILEMU
Chilean Hub's Demonstration Site Seeks Investors to Prevent Foreclosure
We normally reserve this section of the newsletter for educational deep dives, but since we are living through unusual times, please pardon the unusual change of pace this month.
Fundo Panguilemu is a stunning 2,629-acre farm in the southern Patagonia region of Chile owned and operated by husband and wife team Jose and Lizzie Gortazar. Covering acres of beech forest and grassland, surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery, and within minutes of the vibrant city of Coyhaique, the farm practices Holistic Management and acts as the demonstration site for Efecto Manada -- the local Savory Hub in Chile.

Despite the beauty of this land and their incredible stewardship, the Gortazar family is facing the unintended consequences of an extractive financial system and a poor original loan structure, and as such, outside investment is needed to prevent foreclosure within the next 30 days.

There are two ways you can help the Gortazar family raise the necessary funds to prevent foreclosure and support their self-sustaining and regenerative community,
Patagonia EcoFarm, that will demonstrate how regenerative agriculture can enrich the lives of those in Panguilemu and beyond:

  1. Support through their just-launched GoFundMe campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-fundo-panguilemu

  2. Become a charter investor. Each investor will be issued shares in the Patagonia EcoFarm Holding Company that will hold the title to the land, and your investment will give you a portion of ownership in the Holding Company that owns the land and a 10% credit toward ownership of a lot.
